I am in love with the textile art of Ukrainian artists Ivan Semesyuk.
His paintings are an interesting combination of traditional themes and pop culture, while his textile work is colouful and intricate, with added buttons and other embellishments to creates stunning embroideries of domestic animals and imaginary creatures.
Some of the animals are portrayed alone, as single protagonists of the piece, while others are put together into complex patterns.
In all his work there is a sense of fun and irreverence, coupled with a spotless technique.

Johan Thörnqvist creates surreal settings from a combination of photography and illustration.
He uses photos taken from his phone and transforms the ordinary settings into strange sets, where his creatures live unordinary situations. Or just have a cup of tea while the children play.
I have talked before about my interests for photography mixed with illustration, and this is another example where the combination works perfectly.
Be sure to check Johan’s website for more of his illustrations.

These paper creatures are the monsters under our bed.
They germinate from their maker’s mission to solve the eternal dilemma: ‘how do you fit such large creatures in such a small space?’
And apparently he found the solution!
Hand-cut from double-sided scrapbook paper, and put together without the help of any adhesive.
I love the fact that they have been constructed ‘anatomically’, and you can see the bone structure next to the finished monster.

Last week post reminded me how much I like nesting dolls and I have been looking for more, creative takes to the original Matryoshka.
Here is a selection of different versions from different artists, each one making the most of the medium and re-inventing it, using it as a canvas for their creativity and their creatures.
You can see more versions on each artist’s portfolio, so make sure to visit them!
